Cross Country Skiing in Maryland 1/19/24

Here in north eastern Maryland we FINALLY got enough snow to do some cross country skiing at one of our community parks. We got the skis out for the first time in probably 3 years. We just have not been getting enough snow for x-country. We got about 4” out of the Monday/Tuesday storm and another 4” today which was the perfect amount. Aside from a few walkers it was pretty much fresh tracks the entire 3 miles. I did have trouble with snow clumping up on the bottom of my skis. Probably not the best solution, but I had some WD 40 in the van and wiped the “waxless” bottoms of my skis which made a big difference. To be fair these skis are probably 30 or more years old. We bought them at a yard sale about 20 years ago and they were in good shape but the bottom surface was pretty scratched up then even more now. After doing some research I found that the term waxless does not mean that they never have to be waxed it just means that they need waxing “less” than skies that are full wax bottoms. I’m going to give Maxiglide a try. This wax has pretty good ratings on Amazon and is mentioned on a few outdoor sites. Great snowday and we had the park all to ourselves.

2/16/24 Snowfall Falls Short

We had high expectations that we might get another chance to cross country ski in northeast Maryland this past weekend however we didn’t get quite enough for cross country skiing. The 3 inches we got was wet and heavy which did provided for a nice coating on all the trees.
